Rules of the Game

Familiarity. If you're not 100% familiar with the Highlander mythos, that's fine. But we do expect our players to have a working knowledge of the show's universe. You don't necessarily have to watch the show, but you do have to educate yourself. Wikipedia is not a bad start.

Common sense. It's Highlander, but it's also a pretty real world where the weirdest thing going on are immortals who play with swords. Plan and play logically -- if the Highlander world never talks about werewolves, then there are no werewolves. Same goes for basic history -- if your medieval English character met their Korean mentor without ever leaving their mother country, you might want to stop and rethink.

Application. Players interested in joining the game should fill out an application appropriate to their character -- immortal, mortal or Watcher -- and post it to the game's message board for reviews. Applications will not be accepted without reviews. If reviewers ask for adjustments, re-post your application in the same thread, but as a reply. In essence, do not delete your old work, because none of the reviews will then make sense and it will be difficult to discern any improvement.

Introductions. For the sake of keeping things flowing smoothly and introducing new players without a hitch, players who have just been accepted into the game are asked to have an introductory RP session either with a moderator, or while a moderator is present. This is to ensure that the larger storylines throughout the game do not accidentally derail.

Participation. There is no game without players. All players are required to role-play in-character with another player at least once a month. If you can't meet with someone in a chatroom, there is the message board. If you're going to be unavailable for a reason, it is your responsibility to notify the mods. If you are inactive for a 2-month period without having notified the mods of such, your character(s) will be removed from the game.

Communication. Again, there is no game without players. The point of a RPG is to interact with other people, so feel free to ask questions, make suggestions, and just generally interact with your fellow players. No one will bite, and while you don't have to be buddy-buddy with other folks, you should be communicating with them.

Character caps. All players are allowed a maximum of three characters, all moderators four. Depending on the ratio of immortals to Watchers to mortals, the moderators may occasionally implement a temporary character limit (i.e., "no more female immortals until we have more male immortals", etc.). This will affect new applicants only.

The Watcher/Immortal Relationship. This is a two-part issue. We want players to realize that almost no immortals are aware of the Watchers' existence. Likewise, hardly any Watchers will ever interact with their immortals. But the crux of this issue is that if you want to play either of these types, and you have a PC character in mind for your Watcher's assignment/a Watcher's immortal, just get permission from the player. Be courteous.

Logging. We ask that all players attempt to log their chatroom RP sessions, so as to share with the rest of the group. Logs should be posted to the message boards a maximum of four days after the session in question. It is acceptable for unfinished sessions to be posted, as this will benefit the group regardless of whether it is incomplete or not. Posted logs may just be updated with the completed session at a later date. We ask that logs be posted because the mods are running stories for the whole game, and even the smallest interaction can have a butterfly effect. Keep us informed and up-to-date!

Canon characters. Canon characters may be applied for and/or played. However, as the moderators originally started out playing these characters for the sake of keeping the game running, there may or may not be past history which will have to be taken into account. Players who are interested in playing the available "main" characters of the series (Duncan, Amanda, Joe, Methos) should contact the moderators for discussion, so as to receive an exact idea of what the characters' histories entail.

Epic battles. It's the Highlander universe, and so there will be fights. However, we will not condone the use of dice for said fights. Instead we ask that players have a discussion beforehand. Act like adults, guys -- you do not need to talk the whole thing over out-of-character first, but you do need to know who will win at the end (assuming anyone does).
